And the most surprising thing is that they have be consistent for close to 2 decades now. And what they have achieved will remain a milestone never to be reached in a long time(so you can stop castigating players for not reaching Messi and Ronaldo's landmark).
But over the years, one debate has been on going on about this 2 gods. The GOAT debate. Yes, even you must have argued with your friends about this 2 players, supporting one and demeaning the other. But in my opinion, I'm here to show you why Cristiano Ronaldo may be crowned the Greatest Of All Time.
First, his achievements. Both players have achieved quite a lot in football. They have won domestic titles and the coveted UEFA Champions League numerous times than any player in history. But this is where Ronaldo surpasses Messi. The fact is, Messi has more trophies than Ronaldo but Ronaldo has the most important trophies in his collection more than Messi which are, The UEFA Champions League and international trophies. Cristiano Ronaldo has them in numbers. 5 Champions League trophies gunning for a sixth. And fun fact, Portugal has never won an international trophy until a certain Cristiano Ronaldo came along. Now, Portugal has 2 international trophies(The UEFA Euros and Nations League). I love Messi a lot but he has fluffed his chances with Argentina one time, too many. He has lost 4 international finals with Argentina. Would he ever win an international trophy? Let's not forget his Balon D'or exploits. Trust me, Ronaldo will still return and equal the scores.
Another reason why Ronaldo will be crowned the GOAT is because of one thing I call, GOALS. Now, listen to me. I love Messi a lot. In fact, I'm a bigger fan of Messi than any of you can ever be. What he does in the pitch is absolutely...... I can't even find the word to describe him. Dribbles, defence destroying passes and absolute stunners called goals he has scored, it's absolutely amazing and impossible to replicate. But you have to understand one thing, if you want to win the game football, it's all about goals, goals and goals only. Have the highest amount of possession, passes, dribbles, whatsoever, goals will always win the game. And one thing about Cristiano I really admire, it was ability to become the complete goal scorer. At Man Utd and his early days at Real Madrid, Ronaldo was the king of dribbling and goals. He disgraced players for fun. If you want to know how Ronaldo was like back then, watch Neymar now. He's an exact replica. But now, Ronaldo is the most complete goal scorer in history. No wonder he has the most important trophies in history. In football, it is goals that win games and it is the player with the most goals that wins the goods. With Ronaldo 7 goals away from being the top international scorer and already one of the top scorers of all time, Ronaldo may be on his way to taking the GOAT crown.
Finally, Cristiano has more chances of winning the World Cup than Messi. Leo fluffed his chances in 2014 but not Cris. One thing about Ronaldo, he always wins his finals. Plus, the current Portugal squad is a force to be reckoned with containing the likes of Bruno Fernades, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, Rui Patricio, Pepe amongst others, Cristiano Ronaldo can actually lead Portugal to their first World Cup triumph in history. Even you consider, Portugal has every probability of winning the world cup than Argentina.
